5 Ways to Build a More Positive Mindset at Work

We spend one-third of our time at work during the week. If you love your job, this isn’t a problem. In fact, it can be quite enjoyable.

But if you’re in a job where you’re not enjoying the work or are spending a lot of time dealing with difficult people, this can feel very challenging. In fact, you might start cultivating a negative feeling about work, to the point where you don’t even want to get up in the morning.

If this sounds like you, it might be time to focus on building some new habits designed to put a more positive spin on your day. In fact, you might even find yourself liking work and looking forward to your day.

Try these things:

Start the Day Right

This is probably the most important of all the items on this list. It’s hard to feel positive if you’re rushed getting out the door and scrambling to get to work on time. By creating a morning routine, you’ll feel less stressed as you head out to work.

Waking up early ie. 5AM is an excellent way to start the day right. That, of course, provided that you have adequate quality sleep the night before (see the last tip on this list). Start the day off with a light 20-minute warmup including 50 pushups and 50 squats always seem to be the right catalyst for a great day ahead.

Co-ordinate Your Break Times

Who are the people you enjoy spending the most time with at work? If you can, talk to them and see if you can arrange a similar break time or plan a lunch or two every week. Hanging around with positive people can give you something to look forward to during the day.

Sort Out Your Day in Advance

Your attitude will grow negatively if you’re constantly putting out fires. Unfortunately, some workdays will be about mitigating whatever is thrown at you. By prioritizing your work, you’ll know quickly what you can put off and where you should focus when you have time to get work done. While this isn’t a perfect solution to difficult days, it will help you to feel you at least accomplished what’s important.

Lend a Hand

You wouldn’t think of this as a habit but think about it for a minute. If you regularly ask people how you can help, you become known as the person the rest of the workplace can count on. This builds relationships and gives you a network you can call on when you need some help. Talk about a great way to build positive energy all around! In short, be helpful and you will be bestowed with it when you need it.

Get to Bed on Time

Finally, not enough sleep at night will make anyone feel negative the next day. End your day by going to bed at whatever hour you need to wake up feeling rested the next day. Want to really supercharge your sleep time? Make a point to create a comfortable environment for sleep by keeping the room dark and by keeping the room the perfect temperature for sleep.
